Job Description


The Senior Director in the Regulatory and Risk Governance (RRG) role supports the RRG VP and leads the implementation the global supervisory management model and governance initiatives. The Sr. Director will ensure legal and regulatory obligations and expectations are met in assigned regions.

This position will report to the RRG VP.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Evolve and standardize in-market Rest-Of-World (ROW) engagement with supervisory regulators to differentiate Visa and drive holistic and coordinated enterprise-wide regulatory engagement approach that best serves the interest of Visa and our clients

  • Oversee the review, input and/or coordination of responses/submissions to regulators, fulfillment of reporting requirements in supervisory regimes or at time of licensing

  • Develop and maintain standardized content for responses to regulatory inquiries

  • Developing regulatory engagement process infrastructure (process, guidelines, tracking and reporting)

  • Ensure appropriate level of oversight from the Corporate Risk Committee (CRC), and Operational Risk Sub-Committee (ORS), and ensure the Risk Committees have an early view into emerging risks and the required information to make sound decisions. Maintain regulators' reliance and trust in the governance oversight provided by the Risk Committees and our Risk governance processes. Also partner with the Legal Corp. Governance Team on risk related updates to the Board Audit and Risk Committee (ARC):

  • Proactively engage key stakeholders to provide Risk Committees with early view into emerging risks

  • Ensure that the CRC and ORS meet charter responsibilities by providing end-to-end management of the governance process, including development of rolling agenda

  • Lead POC for Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, Technology, Cybersecurity and Global Business Continuity materials for ARC materials. Continue to partner with Legal and Corporate Governance to ensure ARC meets charter responsibilities

  • Ensure ARC, CRC & ORS materials are reviewed for consistency across functions and across governing bodies, working with presenters to prepare them for meetings, ensuring that follow-up actions requested by the Committees are addressed, and developing and maintaining official records, as applicable (including minutes of meetings)

  • Ensure that operations of Risk Committees, Sub-Committees, and Working Groups adhere to defined levels of authority and escalation paths while continuing to enhance risk governance practices to ensure charter responsibilities are attained

  • Ensure proper adjudication of client appeals (related to Visa’s determination of violation, fee assessment, and fines) by the ORS as the designated Visa Appeals Committee

  • Ensure sound governance around Visa's corporate policies and policy lifecycle management in order to: comply with applicable laws and regulations, align with industry standards and best practices, provide guidance to staff on expected behavior and actions, protect the company and set consistent standards for operations.

  • Oversee policy lifecycle for Visa's corporate policies (creation, review and approval, publication, access via Insite, retirement)

  • Oversee engagement with policy owners, Legal and Europe Risk teams to complete Europe adoption of global policies

  • Build policy awareness across Visa so Visa staff have an understanding of key policies and implications to their daily jobs, and are aware when there are changes to policies

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD)
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience in at least two of the following functions: Regulatory Management, Corporate/Risk Governance, Internal Control Function, Compliance or Risk Management

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience
  • Experience working directly with, or supporting governance in technology, payments/banking or financial services regulators
  • Team leadership and analytical problem-solving experience with a strong focus on quality assurance of output
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills – able to adapt and deliver for different audiences
  • Great attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast paced and dynamic environment with a high degree of personal accountability, quality, accuracy, integrity and trust
  • Able to advance multiple initiatives simultaneously. Organized and structured in thinking and approach to work
  • Positive, proactive and solution oriented – a problem solver who finds ways to overcome challenges and get things done
  • Takes full ownership of assigned responsibilities and delivers on time-sensitive requests

  • Fluent in English (verbal and written). Working knowledge of other languages would be a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Power Point, Excel, Word and Outlook.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 165,400 to 215,000 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
