Job Family Summary:

Prospects and analyzes target groups and new business opportunities through market research and developing marketing initiatives. Identifies, pursues, and acquires profitable business relationships with new customers. Ensures maximum exposure of DHL amongst targeted prospects. Develops leads, conducts pre-proposal visitations, and assists technical staff with proposal preparation. Leads negotiations to obtain new customers.

Tasks:

Aggressively seeks and initiates new business relationships with non-buying accounts that have been targeted by the company. Solicits and maintains favorable contacts with potential key accounts. Identifies decision makers and works to understand strategic business challenges and priorities. Develops proposals. Develops sales plans that support increased sales from targeted prospects by utilizing available DHL resources. Manages overall prospect relationships, including dealing with prospects' highest buying levels and coordinating the activities of prospect-focused teams. Identifies business opportunities, assesses prospective customer needs, and matches these with DHL's services to acquire new business. Partners with local, district, and regional management to coordinate customer requests and services that are being promoted. Coordinates sales efforts with inside sales and provides flow of data on account competitors and suppliers to product management. Ensures professional sales coordination and account planning. May provide functional guidance, advice or training to less experienced business development positions.

Autonomy:

Operates with considerable latitude. May develop solutions to non-routine issues, without appreciable guidance from others. Reaches decisions under conditions of uncertainty.

Impact:

May direct major projects or programs with significant business impact within department, area, and business unit. Errors in judgment or failure to achieve objectives would result in significant program delays and sizeable expenditure of resources to rectify.

Knowledge:

Possesses extensive knowledge in specialty area. Routinely called upon to apply comprehensive knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, practices, and processes. Primary contribution is in applying knowledge (product, industry, professional, technical) doing individual contributor work. Provides input in development of operating plans/budgets.

People Management:

May lead others in developing innovative solutions to important, highly complex strategic and operating problems; cross-department considerations are often present. May contribute to employees' professional development.

Problem Complexity:

Performs leading-edge professional level work. Requires creative and innovative thinking in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-department problems.

Skill & Qualifications:
  • Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline and 8-12 years of increasingly diverse or complex applications in field of expertise or MS/MA and generally at least 5-8 years of experience in related field. Professional certificationmay be required in some areas.
  • Recognized subject matter expert.
  • Serves as prime consultant on highly significant matters relating to policies, programs, capabilities and long-range goals /objectives. Mastery of existing and emerging technologies, processes, and practices.
  • Develops new applications based on professional principles and technology development.
