Job Description Summary:
Fenwick is seeking a Senior Manager of Strategic Content Development to play a critical role within our growing marketing department. To help drive forward the focus and timeliness of Fenwick’s thought leadership and profile-raising efforts, this role will lead the creation of a wide range of content with a focus on the firm’s key business and client development priorities. This position can be based in any of our U.S. offices.
Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Director of Communications and Market Engagement, the Senior Manager of Strategic Content Development is a storyteller who understands how to translate complex information into consumable content for a variety of audiences. The ideal candidate is an energetic self-starter with strong writing skills and experience planning and implementing high-quality campaigns showcasing firm thought leadership and profile-raising content.
This position needs a candidate who can:
  • Guide lawyers and marketing department colleagues on the development of engaging and impactful content tailored to address strategically identified target audiences, client needs, market trends and other firm profile-raising opportunities.
  • Oversee a team of marketing content writers and ensure top quality delivery of work product.
  • Collaborate with other marketing and communications colleagues for appropriate external and internal dissemination of content.
  • Leveraging content engagement data analytics for consideration of repurposing content to additional audiences, as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with our internal communications manager to develop and implement templates and project management protocols to ensure content projects are optimally planned and executed.
Focus of the role includes:
  • External communications – Develop content assets for the firm and its practices to be flawlessly executed across all channels relevant to target audiences. Types of assets will include whitepapers, surveys, eBooks, infographics, podcasts, videos, among others. Conducts content strategy discussions with relevant stake holders and manages primary and secondary research in support of creating content assets.
  • Project Management – Develop strategic project plans for content creation, communication, and distribution across appropriate channels, including the evaluation, updating and repurposing of existing content.
  • Business Development - Supports specific business development initiatives with high-value client engagement touch points.
  • Metrics and reporting – Coordinate with other communication managers and data analytics team to measures the impact of the firm’s content for continuous improvement.
  • Staff management and mentoring - Leads and develops a team of multi-skilled marketing writers arrayed against the firm’s various content generation priorities.
  • Idea generation – Collaborate with other communication managers to initiate and implement ideas to improve the firm’s content marketing and digital marketing services.
  • Brand Consistency – Ensure any content created aligns with brand messaging, voice and tone.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
  • 10+ years of marketing and communications experience in a corporate or professional service setting. Law firm experience is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of writing and editorial experience for a wide variety of deliverables including internal, external, and digital communications.
  • Exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written, with a keen ability to capture, distill and accurately describe the legal expertise and value of the firm, its practices and individual attorneys.
  • Strong managerial skills, including excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to retain, develop, motivate and encourage collaboration.
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of technology industries (software, mobile, life sciences, etc.) and legal services (venture capital, securities, IP litigation, etc.)
  • A desire to continually learn and grow, both with best practices in law firm marketing communications and with the firm’s legal practices, business practices and the industries and technologies of our clients.
  • Affinity for technology, both externally, that which is germane to our clients, as well as internally to support innovative marketing and business development efforts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills including the ability to anticipate problems as well as suggest and execute on solutions.
  • Ability to share a portfolio of relevant work (print, digital, social) that demonstrates strategic thinking, an engaging writing style, and a solid command of language.
  • Familiarity with the AP Stylebook is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative and can work independently.
  • Highly organized, efficient and extremely detailed oriented, with superior proofreading and fact checking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize ongoing tasks and significant projects as well as manage expectations of attorneys in relation to these projects.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, prioritize multiple projects, and adjust to shifting priorities (a sense of humor helps, too).
  • Strong customer service ethic and interpersonal skills, capable of working seamlessly with and gaining the respect, trust and confidence of high-level partners, marketing staff and colleagues in other administrative departments, as well as the ability to instill these in others.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft products.
  • Experience with digital content creation platforms including Canva, and others.
  • Ability to be an active contributor on writing projects as needed, is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop teams.
  • Proven leadership and management abilities.
  • JD or MBA preferred.

The anticipated range for this position is:
$159,000 - $207,000
Depending on the role, the actual base salary offered may depend upon a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance. Additional information about employee eligibility for benefits and discretionary bonus will be made available upon request.
