COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE

This work unit exists to formulate public policy, implement intent and provide direction and guidance to its employees and its customers. It’s responsible for leadership, vision, and administration of statewide program areas as described in the Division’s Long Range Plan, statutes and regulations. Responsible for establishing and maintaining close working relationships with local, state, federal, and interstate governmental agencies, private wildlife/park agencies, constituent groups, and other interested parties to facilitate their involvement in the development, modification, and implementation of the Division’s Long Range Plan and programs.

Performs technical and professional assistance to the CPW Director’s office. -
Evaluates and disseminates a high volume of information, managing the scheduling of meetings and functions for the Director, researches various issues or conflicts that arise to clarify the information and report the findings to the Director.

Delegates follow up to internal requests from the DNR executive director’s office, constituents, commission members and staff as part of administering the overall operations of the director’s office.

Also responds in writing via e-mail or memo to constituents in order to understand the business of Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Manages the office budget for the Director and Executive Assistant.

Ensures travel, salaries, and other expenses do not exceed allocated budget.

Works with CPW Chief Financial Officer to establish future budgets.

Maintains current knowledge on leave rules and requirements for the Director.

Monitors the Director’s email, hard copy mail, voice mail and mail “inbox”and replies to general questions deemed by the Director.

Uses judgment to determine which matters are considered urgent and require immediate response to, legislators, Commissioners, constituents and provides an understanding of the business of Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Co-coordinates with Commission Secretary to track and delegate requests from the CPW Commission and constituents.

Attends Commission meetings and ensure agendas are “noticed”, meeting logistics are managed; and organizes the meeting materials for the director.

Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
At least five (5) years of experience in an administrative and/or program support role in an occupational field closely related to the work assigned to the position.

- Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
- Current or former State experience relevant to this position
- Current or former Colorado Parks & Wildlife work or volunteer experience
- Professional level writing, research and communication development skills
- Experience working in a government role
- High level of written and oral communications
- Strong written skills with an understanding of legal and regulatory concepts and language
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- State of Colorado residency is required at the time of application.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state of Colorado driver's license if operating a State vehicle.
- Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify their application from the current position. (Please Note: Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with DNR).
