THE OPPORTUNITY

YES Prep needs a dynamic speech-language pathologist with a diverse set of experiences, to make our mission a reality. To put it simply, you will supervise and provide coaching to an exceptional bilingual speech-language pathology assistant; provide clear and concise updates regarding student progress to staff and families during ARD meetings, and complete full and individual evaluations for students to determine initial or continued eligibility for speech and language therapy services. The speech language pathology team is expanding due to the continued growth of our schools and students, and the speech-language pathologist will join an enthusiastic, supportive and collaborative team.

THE ROLE
When you join the YES Prep team, some of the exciting work and responsibilities will include:
  • Administering, scoring and interpreting formal and informal speech and language assessment tools to determine initial and continued eligibility for speech therapy services and producing high quality evaluations for students that reflect thoughtful analysis of the student’s strengths and weaknesses, and can be meaningfully explained to both families and other professionals;
  • Participating in annual, triennial and initial IEP meetings for students identified as having a speech impairment in order to provide an update on progress, develop new goals and make recommendations to the ARD Committee;
  • Coaching, supervising and collaborating with a bilingual speech language pathology assistant to ensure the provision of superior direct and indirect services to students with a speech impairment and development of activities that are evidence-based and uniquely tailored to student needs;
  • Providing speech and language services to a small caseload of students with a wide variety of needs;
  • Collaborating with family and staff to communicate speech therapy procedures, progress and opportunities for generalization beyond the therapy setting;
  • Consistently documenting student performance through session notes and quarterly progress reports,
  • Participating in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings to refer and review potential special education cases;
  • Attending staff development in-services and workshops to enhance professional skills;
  • Additional duties as assigned.

THE MUST HAVE SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university
  • American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certification and Licensure (or currently pursuing Certification of Clinical Competence as part of Clinical Fellowship), and licensure within Texas (TDLR) as a Speech-Language Pathologist or Speech-Language Pathology Intern.
  • Compliance with local, state, and federal regulations relating to the provision of services to students with speech impairments
  • Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
  • Ability to work urgently in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment
  • Creates and maintains positive working relationships on a team and/or in a highly collaborative environment
  • A dedication to learn, grow, and develop as a professional

THE NICE TO HAVES
  • Fluency in Spanish (oral and written)
  • Previous work experience in a school setting
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives at once
