Computer World Services, Corporation (CWS) is seeking an exceptional candidate to serve as System Engineer - SPOK for the NIH IT CSPSS customer service Portfolio that consists of a full range of NIH IT Service Desk and Desktop Support services, IT Training, and related resource services. The NIH IT Service Desk provides technical support to the NIH community via the World Wide Web and phone. The Service Desk receives over a thousand requests for service every business day.

Where issues cannot be resolved in-house, they are assigned to support staff in each of NIH’s ICs. Support cases are assigned and resolved using the NIH IT Service Desk IT Service Management System (ITSM), supported by the CIT Business Application Services (BAS) and the Service Desk’s Automated Call Distribution System administered by CIT Unified Connectivity and Communication (UCC) service area.

The candidate will be responsible for coordinating and/or performing additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, and attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software. Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems. Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols. Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP. Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve critical software and server issues
  • Develop, configure, and test new server builds
  • Test and update Windows server applications as needed
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs (i.e. backup, scripts)
  • Builds, tests, monitors, and configures patch deployments using various automated tools for both physical and virtual environments
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of documentation. Documentation may be required for operational procedures, troubleshooting aids, and technical analyses for products, features, and capabilities
  • Collaborate with product development teams to plan new features for systems enhancements
  • Participate in planning and scoping meetings for future projects/tasks
  • Work cross functionally to resolve complex customer problems
  • The sites/applications are available 24x7, team member will provide On- call service for after-hours support of these applications

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
  • 4-7 years supporting application development and systems administration/engineering supporting IT project/IT program operations

Certifications

  • Relevant commercial industry certifications for respective supported technologies
  • ITIL Foundation certification (V3/V4) (Required to obtain within three months of starting)

Security Clearance

  • Ability to pass and obtain government required background investigation

Other (Travel, Work Environment, DoD 8570 Requirements, Administrative Notes, etc.)

  • Local travel only to customer site
