Summary
Responsible for assisting the teacher in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate, child-centered program of activities that promotes the social-emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child through exploration and discovery. All practices must be consistent with guidelines put forth by Clinton Hill Community & Early Childhood Center, Inc., the Newark Board of Education, and the NJ Preschool Teaching & Learning Standards.
Duties
? Maintain daily attendance and meal count records.
? Assist in maintaining a well-organized, safe, and clean learning environment.
? Observe and document children?s learning and development; ensure documentation is accessible for teacher to input in student electronic portfolio.
? Lead daily small group lessons and read aloud activities as assigned.
? Review class profile with teacher weekly to adapt teaching and learning to child needs.
? Maintain a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher assistant, volunteers, parents, and program specialists in planning and implementing activities.
? Maintain active supervision of children during all activities.
? Observe children daily to detect signs of illness, injury, emotional disturbance, learning disorder, speech problem, or other special needs.
? Assist the teacher in conducting family conferences to discuss children?s developmental progress, needs and interests.
? Assist the teacher in implementing Positive Behavior Support strategies and behavior plans designed by PIRT or other approved specialists.
? Assist the teacher in implementing IEP?s and ensuring the inclusion of children with disabilities and special needs.
? Work with other program staff to develop and implement ongoing family engagement activities.
? Safeguard all classroom supplies and equipment.
? Participate in staff meetings, center activities, and staff training as required.
? Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
? Documented experience in working with young children, parents, and volunteers.
? Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood development including working with families from diverse backgrounds.
? Must demonstrate success in working as a member of a team.
? Must have effective and strong communication skills (orally and written).
? Current CDA with a Preschool Endorsement; or
? Associate/Bachelor or Arts Degree: Early Childhood Education; PLUS
? Minimum of 3-years classroom teaching experience. Experience with children with special needs is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
? Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
? Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and
local standards
? Be able to lift 25-30 lbs.
? Be able to walk, squat/kneel, sit on floor, see, hear, and speak with children to ensure children?s health and safety.
