This job posting is for a Temporary General Accountant III within University of California Irvine’s Accounting & Fiscal Services department. This role is a hybrid position 8am-5pm Monday-Friday. This role is primarily remote, but the incumbent will be required to come to the Irvine office for trainings, meetings, and as needed/requested.

Under the general guidance of the Plant Accounting Manager, the Temporary General Accountant III is independently responsible for reviewing and analyzing accounting transactions and implementing financial statement or report changes to meet Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Accounting tasks are performed under minimal supervision and work is reviewed in terms of meeting specific goals and objectives in their entirety. Performance at this level involves all facets of high-level accounting and financial analysis, including knowledge of a wide range of concepts, including Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements, General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), University policies and procedures, University accounting policies, the General Ledger System, as well as the skill to interpret and apply this knowledge to the identification and resolution of accounting and financial problems.

DUTIES FOR TEMPORARY GENERAL ACCOUNTANT III INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Process journal entries
  • Prepare assigned account reconciliations
  • participate in the lease accounting implementation project as directed by supervisor
  • Complete month-end close and fiscal close steps as assigned
  • Perform financial analysis and prepare financial reports
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Compensation Range:

$30.84-35.91 (hourly) is the expected pay range within the salary range of $30.84 - $48.73 (hourly)

Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting function and assignments.
  • Ability to independently gather, organize, and perform accounting-related analysis to complete work assignments.
  • Tactful skill to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with people at all levels to explain policies and procedures, present facts, findings, conclusion and recommendations clearly and concisely.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial transactions and systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of analytical procedures used in accounting projects of moderate to semi-complex scope.
  • Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices, e.g., GAAP, GASB and SAS.
  • Excellent skill to define problems promptly, identify relevant factors, formulate logical conclusions, and come up with solutions to solve problems.
  • Skill in proposal development, program evaluation, and research methodologies.
  • Skill to organize and carry out a diversified fiscal closing operation and financial systems development.
  • Skill to interpret accounting, campus policies and procedures that may be complex or incompletely stated.

Preferred:

  • Sound knowledge of UC policies and procedures.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment with limited resources.
  • Working knowledge of UCI financial systems, UCOP financial systems and sub-systems
  • Specialized skill and knowledge to provide advice to key functional areas in campus wide plant fund accounting
