Job description
The Broward County Public Works Department, Traffic Engineering Division, provides for the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicular traffic within the County.
The Traffic Control Worker specializes in the maintenance of traffic control devices and the application of pavement markings. The position ensures orderly movement of motorized and non-motorized traffic through the County's roadway system in in accordance with Florida Department of Transportation regulations. Assignments include but are not limited to: applying pavement marking stencils, regulating air compressors and preparing paint for application; operating motorized spray equipment, air compressors and paint striping machines; installing, replacing, and repairing traffic control devices; applying and painting street pavement markings, stripes, barrier lines, center lines, stop bars, and crosswalks; inspecting assigned area for damaged signs/markings and reporting to supervisor; operating various vehicles as required for maintenance and installation of traffic control devices; performing related work as required. Must possess and maintain valid Florida Driver's License for duration of appointment.
General Description
Maintains, creates and installs roadway markings and signs.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Prepares each jobsite with necessary safety marking according to the Federal Department of Transportation regulations; inventories the supplies for the job assignment of the daily operations.
Operates machines (truck, paint guns, grinder, and blower); inspects and maintains vehicles and equipment; installs paving markings of various types.
Handles materials (paint, glue, tape, raised pavement markers (RPM's)); prepares and removes safety devices and equipment (arrow boards, cones, signs, personal protective equipment (PPE)).
Enters data into the computer system to produce accurate reports for submission to supervisors.
Performs related work as assigned.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery. Extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions.
