Education and/or Experience
- B. A. or BSc. from a four-year college or university, preferred; 1 to 5 years experience in basic counseling or juvenile services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must successfully complete all security clearance requirements to include:
- Criminal History (TCIC/NCIC)
- Sex Offender Registration Database Check
- Driver’s License Check
- Pre-employment Drug Screen
Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Preference given to individuals who meet state requirements for Professional Licenses, Community Activities Officer, Juvenile Supervision Officer, Juvenile Probation Officer Certification, etc.
- TJJD certification as a Juvenile Supervision Officer or Juvenile Probation Officer, preferred
- Must successfully complete the TJJD requirements for certification as a Juvenile Supervision Officer or Juvenile Probation Officer.
- Responsibilities
- Serves as a liaison between the facility, assigned probation officer and family members concerning classification problems, progress reports and release plans for all Hays County juveniles (Pre- and Post-Adjudication).
- Serves as a liaison between the facility and the John H. Wood Jr. Charter School (BraiNation) concerning juveniles who are working on their GED while in placement and serve as a GED testing proctor.

- e as a liaison between the facility and the Hays County Juvenile Probation department concerning juveniles who are working on their GED while on probation and serve as a GED testing proctor.
- Performs a variety of caseload duties such as monitoring treatment programs and providing technical assistance to juveniles and their family members.
- Prepares a variety of records and reports such as monthly activity reports.
- Develop/Collaborate with local social service agencies to serve as a referral source for juveniles and families and ensure quality of services upon release from placement.
- Provides individual and group guidance to juveniles who are approaching release and assists in developing transitional plans in preparing juveniles for re-entry into community life.
- Conducts orientation sessions to explain programs and resources available to juveniles and instruct them how to utilize these programs and resources in their transition planning.
- Interviews juveniles to record data on individual problems, needs, interests and attitude.
- Holds individual and group counseling sessions to discuss programs available that affect the juvenile’s re-entry into community life, such as housing, finances, benefits, employment, etc.
- Prepares and maintains case folders for each juvenile and discuss findings with other staff to obtain assistance in establishing goals and plans of actions for juveniles.
- Have contact with the juvenile and/or family members at home, school, counseling sessions, etc. and report progress to the assigned probation officer.
- Assist Hays County Juvenile Center employees with supervision, transports and other center programs.
- Will perform other duties as assigned
Summary

Coordinates with Hays County juvenile probation officers and monitors the classification of Hays County juveniles at the facility. Counsels and aids juveniles in the completion of their assigned program activities while in placement. Coordinates GED pre-screening, education and testing of qualified juveniles. Establish contact with family members to facilitate the transition back home. Monitor juveniles released from placement for compliance with probation terms, school & program attendance, following family rules and communicating contacts with the juvenile’s assigned probation officer in a timely manner.
