Culture's mission is to simplify bioprocess development and make it as fast and easy to scale bioprocesses, as it is to scale software. With this mission, Culture's first offering enables biopharma, biotechnology, and synthetic biology companies to execute their bioprocessing R&D in the cloud. Our clients design, manage, and analyze bioprocess experiments in Culture's Console web application. Culture's offering enables customers to focus on designing and improving their processes versus spending time and effort building out their own high-throughput process development laboratories. Customers remotely observe their processes and analyze data while their experiments are executed in Culture's cloud bioreactor facility in South San Francisco. The facility is enabled by Culture's proprietary 250mL and 5L single-use bioreactor technology and software systems.

The Role

We are looking for a Bioprocess Associate, with experience in bioreactors and mammalian cell culture, to join our bioreactor operations team. Your work will contribute to getting novel biotechnology products to market faster and more efficiently. Your job will be to work as part of a team of bioprocess associates, engineers and project leads to execute customer projects and build an efficient operations department. In particular, you will learn mammalian cell culture techniques and work with in-house custom built software and equipment designed for bioreactor operations.

What you'll do:

  • Demonstrate aseptic techniques while culturing cells in shake flasks
  • Run bioreactor experiments for our clients
  • Set up, operate and take down bioreactors
  • Process and analyze lab samples, operating analytical instruments such as Nova Flex2, ViCell XR and Blu
  • Follow operating lab procedures with strong attention to detail
  • Communicate experiment activity status and potential concerns in a timely and effective manner.
  • Troubleshoot challenging technical, experimental, and instrumental issues with the support of Engineers.
  • Manage tasks with co-workers using an in-house collaboration software tool.
  • Support the R&D and Technical transfer teams to improve bioreactor hardware and onboard new clients

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or a science related background.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a lab setting
  • 1-2 years of experience working with bench scale bioreactors
  • Strong aseptic technique and BSC experience
  • Candidates with mammalian cell culture preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and clear communication skills

Location & Schedule:

  • This is an on-site role in our South San Francisco facility. Occasional overtime may occur.
    • Tuesday to Saturday, day shift.


Base Salary Range:

  • Culture Biosciences's compensation package includes market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and great benefits. If you are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, our expected cash compensation for this role is $33.00 to $44.00 an hour. We are hiring for multiple levels and backgrounds so final offers may vary within the range provided based on experience, expertise, and other factors.
