Job description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Peer Specialist assists consumers of addictive disease services with daily decision-making and minor problem-solving skills. Provides emotional support and encouragement and models appropriate behavior and social interactions. Intervenes and diffuses potentially disruptive situations using established guidelines. Refers concerns to appropriate staff as needed. Charts observations and incidents. Works with other team members to determine appropriate individual goals and objectives and to develop individualized plans for participants.
- Assists participants with accessing community resources and developing self-advocacy skills.
- Assists participants with preparation to co-lead groups on planned topics related to treatment and recovery goals.
- Presents educational group lectures as assigned.
- Assists with provision of support services, such as case management and supportive guidance.
- Participates in staff supervision sessions, program planning meetings, participant staffing, and in-service training.
- Provide group sessions to court participants.
- Provide documentation on all services provided in View Point Health medical record and court case management system.
- Provide case management services and linkage to court participants.
- Function as part of the Drug and DUI Court teams.
- Attend court and staffing for Drug and DUI Court as needed.
- Attend training as needed for court evidence-based curriculums.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of related experience OR HSD/GED AND two years of experience providing social or direct care services to groups of special needs individuals in a human service setting OR One year of experience at the lower-level Client Support Worker 2 (SSS011) or position equivalent.
Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
Must be a current or former recipient of addictive disease/behavioral health services and be willing to attend training to become a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) and/or Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (CARES).
- Certification as a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS)
- Certification as a Certified Addiction Recovery and Empowerment Specialist (CARES)
- Experience with accountability courts (Drug, DUI, etc.)
- Experience working with clients in recovery (peer counselor, sponsor, etc.)
- Two years’ experience working as a supportive employment technician or hold a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or business with at least 1 year of experience working with individuals who have SPMI obtain resources in the community.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
- Requires long periods of sitting/standing.
- Must have valid Georgia driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record in accordance with company policy.
- Candidates for selection must pass a criminal background check (including fingerprinting).
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and subject to random drug screens.
- Any combination of training and experience, which would have enabled the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
