Job Summary: The SFRC Communications Director serves in the Committee’s leadership team as chief spokesperson and a senior advisor to the democratic Chairman, providing overall strategic direction and leadership for public engagement and communications. The role requires exceptional oral and written communication skills, a strong understanding of political communications and U.S. foreign policy, and the ability to work collaboratively with committee staff, members of the media, and stakeholders in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the committee and work with local, national and international media outlets to secure coverage.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies that advance the Chairman’s legislative goals and objectives, including messaging, media relations, social media, and digital communications.
  • Exercise wide latitude of judgment and strategic guidance with respect to the public release of committee’s agenda, legislative activity, Chairman’s media appearances, etc.
  • Manage, cultivate and expand relationships with relevant journalists, publications, thought leaders and external stakeholders in the national security community to increase the impact of the committee’s work.
  • Collaborate with policy teams to oversee drafting of press releases, speeches, talking points, op-eds and other written materials.
  • Manage a team of communications professionals responsible for all elements of internal and external communications.
  • Monitor media coverage and provide regular reports to committee leadership on trends and opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, or related field
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in communications or public relations, with a strong preference for experience in government, national security or political communications.
  • Strong media relations skills and experience working with reporters and editors.
