Who We Are Seeking

As the Director, Experience Design at Left Field Labs, you’ll be responsible for leading digital, product, and platform opportunities, as well as leading user experience design efforts for a variety of consumer-facing websites, apps and experiences used by millions of people on a daily basis. You will work closely with the design, development, production team, as well as key business stakeholders.

You’ll partner with our strategists and UX designers to ensure our ideas are grounded on insights. You will be working closely with the production and technology teams to ensure the delivery of creative solutions is effective, on-budget and quality driven from the onset. You will also know how to engage both internal and external audiences through effective concept development and skillful story-selling.

You should be versatile and multifaceted, with a deep passion for solving problems with both creativity and an incredible eye for detail. You have a unique ability to connect the dots between client business objectives and experience design solutions. You have a team-oriented mentality and a healthy respect for the role your work plays in the broader integrated experience. You use your powers of creativity and love of experience design to create incredible user experiences while keeping in mind the strategic objectives of the project.

What You Will Do

  • Overall team management
    • Managing team routines, practice and structures for the overall UX team
    • Working with team members to create documentation for new and existing processes
    • Contributing to creating and maintaining a sense of cross-vertical UX team culture
    • Oversee style guidelines and consistency of UX
    • Work with UX team for internal reviews prior to executive or client reviews
  • Individual team members
    • 1:1s or another method of regular check in
    • Working with them on individual goals and growth planning
    • Performance reviews for full time members (annual and ongoing feedback)
  • Resourcing
    • Making sure that upcoming project needs are resourced appropriately and that the team is meeting expected utilization
    • Participate in the hiring of UX designers
    • Working with recruitment to ensure that we are finding the resources we need if there aren’t any available internally
    • Coordinating and communicating with other team leads
    • Onboarding new team members
  • New Business Opportunities
    • Leading the experience strategy and UX design portions of pitches and proposals for new business
    • Estimation, project planning, and outlining UX scope of work for new business

CLIENT-FACING

  • Generate solutions that aim to exceed client expectations
  • Understand the clients’ business objectives and how those objectives relate to the target audience, while staying in tune to business issues to generate creative ideas
  • Help to build the agency's reputation, profile and relationships with talent and clients
  • Be comfortable leading a proposal presentation, captivating your audience with presentation skills, conveying deep knowledge and passion for the project that can influence key decision makers
  • Persuasively and effectively present user experience design work to peers, partners and clients
  • Take an active role in new business pitches for the account where appropriate.
  • Leverage relationships to extend Left Field Labs remit with client organizations and seek out opportunities with related client brands.

TEAM MENTORSHIP

  • Inspire, support, and direct UX team
  • Promote collaborative work practices and identify opportunities to improve quality and increase efficiency through collaborative design.
  • Provide direction, leadership, and guidance to members of the User Experience team and ensure the team has a high level of morale
  • Working closely with, and reporting to the Executive Creative Director, with the goal to both continue to shape and become an ambassador for our ‘uncommon creative’ values
  • Provide necessary mentorship to team members to help them grow in their career
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity and personal growth by making team meetings a “safe” place where all participants are heard and respected
  • Stay abreast and share with the team cultural events and trends, digital and technology happenings, that might bring extraordinary new experiences to our clients’ audiences
  • Possess excellent time management skills and have a sense of urgency; proven ability to work on multiple projects at any given time

REQUIREMENTS

  • Apply current user experience and usability principles while looking for opportunities to innovate.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of all aspects of the User Experience Design (UXD) approach and the ability to apply them flexibly across a variety of project types.
  • Able to use/introduce more advanced UXD techniques (rapid prototyping, remote testing etc.) to improve efficiency in the user experience process and the quality of the solution.
  • Able to contribute at a high level to overall strategic client approach, taking into account relevant marketplace, consumer and technology factors.
  • Able to develop UXD solutions for a wide variety of platforms and devices.
  • Plan and manage large-scale projects; identifying activities that need to be carried out, plus the efforts needed to complete them, in a completely structured way for large-scale and complex projects with multiple work-streams.
  • Collaborate with team: writers, developers, and strategists to deliver digitally-native creative ideas, solutions and experiences
  • Assist the Producers in ensuring deadlines are met
  • Keep up-to-date on new trends and ideologies in the digital world
  • Work side-by-side with all directors and leads to take a multi-discipline approach to creativity and problem solving
  • Foster a collaborative and learning environment by partnering with stakeholders and facilitating design decisions to optimize for the user experience while balancing interests within technology, marketing, business, and executive partners
  • Act as the key UX contact, representing the project and team to all external partners and stakeholders
  • Contribute to the digital strategy in terms of UX: help shape the future of the sites/products
  • Ensure compliance with UX Specifications
  • Define and communicate UX team priorities and manage resources as appropriate to ensure products are launched on time with high quality
  • Proactively identify opportunities and risks to improve the work of the team, the quality of the project, and studio knowledge as a whole
  • Evolve the UX teams’ processes

What You’ll Need to be Successful

  • Extensive information architecture/content strategy/user experience/usability experience for blue-chip clients.
  • Experience in line management and team development.
  • Experience working with standard IA and UXD tools and processes.
  • Solid understanding of innovative technologies.
  • Experience with content management systems and e-commerce.
  • Experience in cross-platform design.
  • Knowledge of designing for social is beneficial.


The salary range for this role is $150,000-$230,000. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Culver City, California. This is the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
