Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine as the Director of Clinical Nutrition responsible for the Clinical Nutrition and Digestive Disease Nutrition Practice services for UChicago Medicine Main Campus. UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago. This Director of Clinical Nutrition will plan, implement, direct and oversee the work operations of the clinical nutrition staff in the adult, pediatric, and ambulatory setting, as well as the Digestive Disease service line. This role will also coordinate and oversee medical nutrition therapies and model practices to provide the highest level of medical nutrition therapy.

This role will report directly into the Executive Director of Patient Care Services and will supevise both union and non-union leaders, registered nurses, and dietitians. Who you are:
A supportive and confident leader who will help to achieve defined objectives and increase market shares, further RD participation in professional organizations, innovations, and research. A leader that will ensure that outpatient and inpatient teams can work closely together for seamless and positive patient care continuity with the following:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Specialty certification related to area of clinical practice/position
  • At least 10 years clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian (RD)
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation
  • Demonstration of progressive clinical skills development and leadership potential required
  • Analytical skills necessary to identify and solve problems in a constantly changing environment required
  • Ability to work closely with team members and the Executive Director, Patient Care Services required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with patients and staff from diverse cultural, educational, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred

What
you’ll do as the Director of Clinical Nutrition :
  • Uses a broad theoretical knowledge base and the principles of patient centered care to assist in the establishment of patient centered care standards
  • Ensure that all RD clinical practice standards and standards of patient centered care are consistently being met and maintained
  • Ensure annual and ongoing clinical competence of all staff
  • Demonstrates clinical and leadership skills, serving as a role model for staff members
  • Provides consultation in areas of professional expertise
  • Communicates current trends, concepts, and issues of professional practice
  • Implements established staffing patterns based on patient needs, staff qualifications, and resources available to ensure quality patient centered care.
  • Collaborate with other administrators to assess needs and define productivity and staffing goals
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the budget within established guidelines
  • Monitors the selection, use and control of the equipment and supplies of the unit
  • Educates unit personnel on the budget process and expectations to promote greater fiscal awareness and accountability of all staff
  • Participates in recruitment and selection of clinical nutrition staff
  • Acquires and manages department registry dietitians trained to assist with inpatient and outpatient patient care, as well as service line cross coverage plans, as needed.
  • Participates in the corrective action process in a consistent and accountable manner
  • Complies with standards and regulations of various licensing, regulatory and accrediting agencies
  • Demonstrates awareness of and compliance with hospital policies and procedures
  • Participates in development and review of policies and procedures
  • Serves on appropriate care center and organizational committees
  • Creates a work climate that encourages positive staff morale, motivation, and commitment for all patient care team members
  • Contributes to the Patient Services Sector by offering constructive suggestions for change and participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of new and existing programs
  • Identifies issues, presents strategies and acts as a change agent to resolve unit and patient care issues
  • Participates in the planning and evaluation of educational programs to meet unit needs and to promote staff development
  • Provides and supports an environment that is conducive to the educational support of students
  • Serves as a role model for staff by presenting or arranging for educational programs
  • Demonstrates knowledge of new products and equipment related to specialty area
  • Determines own professional needs through ongoing self-assessment and evaluation of role performance and assumes responsibility for meeting those needs
