What does it take to become a Civican?
This position will manage or assist to manage the daily operations of the library including performing library loan transactions, acquisitions, cataloguing, processing of library resources, execution of library programmes, activities, provide reference and information services to assist library patrons in their research and learning needs.
A day in the life…
- Visit customers to provide advice on collection service matters
- Perform collection review for customers including gap analysis
- Develop recommended library resource lists including books, ebooks, journals, magazines, databases, etc.
- Proposed and/or develop strategic library programmes to promote the recommended books
- Cataloguing and physical processing of library resources
- Prepare regular project reports
- Any other duties assigned to meet the needs and requirements of the business.

You possess the following qualities:
- Ability to lead library team in the provision of library service
- Committed to delivering quality customer service
- Patience, with attention to details
- Knowledge in library operations such as reference services, circulation operations and research support
- Good customer service skills
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact well with library users, teaching professionals and library vendors
- Good knowledge on the use of online databases
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet users’ needs
- Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and Internet IT skills
- Experience working in the law or travel industry would be an advantage
- A recognized degree in any discipline with at least 3 - 5 years of relevant working experience in managing libraries
- A recognized postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Management or Information Science is preferred
