Job description
Washington County's Operations and Maintenance Division within the Department of Land Use & Transportation is currently hiring an Operations Dispatcher to support our road maintenance crews.
The Position
The Operations Dispatcher monitors and relays essential messages between members of the road crew, supervisors, and other staff via radio, telephone, and writing. This includes keeping track of equipment and staff locations and communicating about logistics, emergency response, public safety information, or other support functions. They also maintain a variety of records and reports in support of road crew members and supervisory staff. The Operations Dispatcher also assists warehouse staff with managing equipment and materials.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a natural communicator and listener who can quickly comprehend and share complex written or spoken information. They have experience dispatching and are comfortable with radio and telephone communications. They are calm under pressure and are prepared to work in support of public safety during emergency situations including severe weather. The successful candidate is familiar with using technology and is open to learning and operating work scheduling and tracking software. They are comfortable with data entry, and recordkeeping and can reliably submit reports on time. This candidate is a team player who must have the capacity to act as a central point of contact for staff of various roles and backgrounds.

- Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. equivalent; AND
- Two (2) years of work experience in scheduling or dispatching construction equipment, materials, and/or employees.

- Panel Interview(s): Our goal is to schedule panel interviews with candidates that meet the minimum qualifications and pass the SME review as soon as possible.
- Reference Checks: The hiring manager will conduct reference checks on the top candidate.
- Salary Analysis & Conditional Offer: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate(s) and extend a conditional offer of appointment.
- Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment. Job share employees are responsible for 50% of the premium. Part-time regular, variable hour, and temporary positions are not eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.
