The Successful candidate will be responsible for managing the technical evaluation and diligence for new opportunities and the eventual design and permitting of Utility (20mw + ) solar PV plus battery energy storage systems and as directed on other distributed energy and efficiency projects. As a Project Development Engineer, you will support origination, project development, and the project execution team. You will contribute your unique expertise and industry experience in support of technically and economically advanced project designs and proposals. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, cost-efficient designs in support of our power plants.

The Development Engineer is responsible for identifying the most appropriate technical and material solutions or other variables to optimize the system proposals. Deliverables such as confirmation of equipment specifications, concept design drawings, site evaluations, interconnection, and single line diagrams, and other supporting detail as required will be managed by this position. This position will also work with internal resources, sub-contracting Professional Engineers, the Customer, and local regulatory entities to create a design that meets the requirements of all stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities:

• Perform technical due diligence for RFPs or similar as required by official response documents. Verify or identify key requirements, to provide the most appropriate solution or response.
• Utilize modeling tools such as production estimating tools (PVSyst), and/or material optimizing methods to validate the most appropriate design and material solutions.
• Work with other departments to provide the best estimating and modeling information.
• Coordinate with and manage detailed design activities from professionally licensed engineering support.
• Manage the submission of drawings to the appropriate agency in order to obtain construction permits.
• Coordinate the development of a bill of material for each project based on the final approved design.
• Manage CAD resources and priorities to effectively meet required timelines.
• Maintain reports to track new opportunities, for use in forecasting, updating as required.
• Provide technical support and deliverables for utility-specific interconnection applications and approvals, rebate applications, performance validation models, or any other technical support for commercial operation.
• Provide dedicated layout, energy modeling, constructability, and due diligence support to Project Development and Business Development
• Coordinate detailed layout design for binding offers using internal and external tools and resources
• Develop layout optimization tools which include estimating values based on O&M to EPC feedback loop.
• Manage detailed layout design for SRC’s development pipeline of solar energy projects. Evaluate project constraints, solar module, inverter, and racking technologies, BOP (balance of plant) considerations, and solar resource data to maximize project value.
• Analyze available meteorological datasets and utilize MCP (measure-correlate-predict) methodology to assess project resource characteristics
• Utilize performance modeling software to prepare project energy yield assessments and other production profile deliverables such as 8760s and production diurnals
• Support the business development and origination teams with the preparation of sales proposals
• Interface with the project management and operations teams leading up to and through project commercial operations. Ensure timely and complete transfer of technical responsibilities.
• Manage relationships with various equipment vendors, contractors, and third-party engineering firms.
• Conduct site visits to support site evaluation, suitability, and due diligence efforts.
• Spearhead multiple team initiatives to support the continued growth of the project engineering team. Manage and train junior team members.
• Identify and execute value engineering opportunities.
• Attend site qualification visits to collect information required to complete the proposal process, design, and permitting of the required energy systems.
• Develop structural and electrical conceptual design, including technology selection, layouts and drawings, and electrical and roof interface for solar electric systems, and other energy systems that meet all national, local, and stakeholder requirements for submission of proposals.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

The candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications and have demonstrated the following technical or job skills:

A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred) and/or a combination of equivalent education and equivalent work experience.

3-5 years of experience serving in a similar capacity and demonstrating of performing PV design and development with multiple types of energy projects. Knowledge of the development of customer proposals, vendor agreements, and subcontractor contracts.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst & Helioscope required

Effective in customer presentations, including excellent writing skills.

Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills to manage the activities required in the design and permitting of energy systems.

Professional Engineering (PE) registration, FE or working to FE and/or PE, plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
