Operations Manager Railroad Switching

Location: Fairburn GA.

Schedule: Night Shift

Position Summary:

• The Operations Manager of will report directly to the Terminal Manager providing complete management oversight for the Switching operation and will be responsible for such things as Interviewing, Hiring, & Training of new associates.
• The Operations Manager of Switching will work with crews to perform the safe switching of railcars, using locomotive power. Switch crews are responsible for performing jobs efficiently and following all company and customer safety rules.
• Switch/spot railcars and build trains as well as deliver cuts of cars to class 1/Short Line railroads while always working safely in every type of weather condition.
• Daily planning, & Safety meetings
• Directing work flow, and addressing issues that may arise.
• Management experience is a plus
• Must be available for variable shifts and some weekend work.

Responsibilities:

• Perform general railroad switching duties such as: couple and uncouple of cars, operate switches/derails, apply hand brakes, make minor repairs to railcars, including replacement of air hoses and knuckles, etc.
• Judge and control speed of cars, distance of tracks and clearance points to safely move railcars and rolling stock
• Ensuring compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, FRA and DOT regulations
• Ensuring compliance with customer and company safety policies and procedures
• Ensuring all subordinates understand and comply with applicable customer and company work instructions, quality procedures and site SOP's
• Managing site performance relative to financial and productivity goals, developing, implementing and monitoring corrective actions where appropriate;

Skills, Licenses, Certification, and/or Special Training:

• Must maintain a valid state driver's license if required to operate company equipment;
• Must be able to safely operate vehicles with either a standard and/or automatic transmission;

Work and Environmental Conditions:

• Must be able to constantly work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions;
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, and being on call
• Must be able to frequently climb, using various types of ladders, to heights in excess of 16 feet;
• Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
