Job Description
Reporting to the President, the Executive Director of Presidential Communications develops and leads comprehensive strategic communications that bring visibility and consistency of key messages focused on the function and vision of the President to internal and external audiences. The position is responsible for developing the President’s messaging strategy and cycles of regular communication to support that strategy.
The position will support the work of the President and the strategic messaging of the University, by researching and writing speeches, talking points, reports, letters, columns, web content, and other materials. The position will also provide editorial support for material drafted in other offices on behalf of the President.
The position is also responsible for executive communications support to ensure the visibility and consistency of key messages from the office of the President to internal and external audiences. This position will partner with University Marketing and Communications regarding presidential messaging in response to media requests, as well as all branding and design of other specialized projects.
Responsibilities:

Research and draft communications to various audiences and constituencies. Produce effective visual presentations to complement or in lieu of a speech. Prepare substantive correspondence in response to inquiries. Draft communications to the University community, including alumni, students, faculty and staff. Research and draft remarks for President’s use in public appearances and campus events.

Develop detailed reports and analyses as needed. Generate and draft content for external audiences (e.g. op-eds, columns, presentations). Manage editorial content for President’s Office website. Manage President’s social media presence.

Assist in assessing strategic value and return on investment of speaking and other communications opportunities for the President, and in identifying valuable opportunities to position the University and its message.

In collaboration with the University's Office of Marketing and Communications and other campus colleagues, and consistent with the University’s Strategic Plan, develop a communications strategy for the Office of the President to ensure effective communication with campus constituents and support for the University’s overall communications plan. Participate in Office of Marketing and Communications planning meetings and contribute ideas to strengthen University’s internal and external communications, brand positioning, and ensure alignment of communications from Office of the President with overall strategy.

Plan and develop calendars for recurring communications (e.g., campus updates).

Edit / prepare Board of Regent materials . Edit / prepare materials for other Boards and Councils for which President’s Office has responsibility. Edit/review of general correspondence generated for President’s signature, including donor acknowledgments.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
-
Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business, or related field.

Minimum of 10 years professional writing experience, preferably in an academic environment and for a chief executive officer.

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
